Let It Go So You Can Gain
“ But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ” – Philippians 3:7 NKJV
The amazing reality of pursuing Christ, is that you gain by losing and letting go. We gain by letting go of things that hinder or impede our progress of gaining Christ.
The older I get (and hopefully the wiser), I realize that I do not need nearly as much as I did in my youth. There was a time I needed achievement. I needed acceptance. I needed to feel good about myself. I needed peoples approval. I needed promotion. I needed love from the wrong people in the wrong places. I needed possessions. I needed the latest gadgets. Basically, I was a walking bag of need. I lived in the bondage of my needs.
True freedom comes when we accept Christ and learn to seek Him by making Him our only need. In Christ we are completely loved, completely accepted, and through Him we are completely provided for. How freely we can live when we realize and accept that all of our needs are met through Christ Jesus alone.
Paul is telling us to let it go so that we can gain. Let go of the neediness and to make Christ our complete pursuit. It is through our pursuit of Christ that our every need is addressed.
People and things will come and go, so don’t lose heart and look for the gain. There will be seasons that will appear to be times of loss when they actually new opportunities to rely on our sufficiency in Christ. Having the courage to let needs go opens the doorway to learn more about ourselves and the deep love that God has shown us through His Son.
My prayer for you today is that you will continue to develop a complete need for Christ alone. As for as the need for anything else – let it go so you can gain.
